CEOAS staff and teachers receive recognition from both within and outside of the university for their work and contribution to our community.
This award has been awarded annually since 2021 to recognize the many efforts that CEOAS faculty make in mentoring our undergraduate students, and the importance of mentoring to undergraduate success.
Professor Anita L. Grunder made major contributions to undergraduate education in CEOAS and in the Department of Geosciences, as a Professor of Geology and as the inaugural Associate Dean of Academic programs. Professor Grunder was the Association of Women Geoscientists National Teacher of Year in 2009, and a former winner of the OSU College of Science Lloyd Carter and Fred Horne awards for excellence in teaching. This award is given annually to a CEOAS faculty member who demonstrates excellence in undergraduate teaching in the college.
Professor June Pattullo played an instrumental role in the inception and early development of graduate education in oceanography at OSU. The award was first given in 1998 and is intended to recognize a teaching faculty member who has achieved excellence in teaching within the college over a period of several years. The same person may not receive the teaching award more than once in seven years.
Jack Dymond was a stalwart member of the college faculty until his untimely death in 2003, and was known for his efforts in mentoring graduate students. The award was developed by students in 1999 to recognize Jack’s many contributions to student mentoring.
This award was initiated by students in 2000 as a way to recognize the significant contribution FRAs (Faculty Research Assistants) make in supporting student development and research. The award is given annually for exemplary performance by a CEOAS Faculty Research Assistant.
This award was initiated in 2007 as a way to recognize the outstanding service and contributions to CEOAS by classified staff. The award is given annually for exemplary performance by a CEOAS classified staff member.
This award was initiated in 2022 as a way to recognize the extraordinary contributions that professional faculty make to CEOAS. The award is given annually for exemplary performance by a CEOAS professional faculty member.
This award recognizes students who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication and service to the college.
These awards are not awarded annually, but are given to individuals who have provided exceptional service to the college and gone above and beyond their normal duties to help CEOAS respond to challenges.
