What/who helped you to be successful at OSU?

EOP, Dr. Liz Jones :), my roommate Julia, the CEOAS advisors

What sparked your interest in the Earth Sciences?

Since I was a kid I was fascinated with figuring out how the world around me worked. I loved watching the waves at the coast and following storm weather events. I also enjoyed spending too many hours playing a natural disaster response game on the clunky Mac's of my elementary school computer lab. My junior year of high school I took AP Environmental Science and absolutely loved it. I had an amazing teacher (shout out to Mr. Geren!) who really inspired me with his stories of studying penguins in Antarctica. When I applied to colleges my senior year I decided I wanted to major in Environmental Science. After taking intro Oceanography and Climate Science, I decided that Climate Science was the major for me!

What advice would you offer incoming CEOAS students?

Your first year will be the most exciting, but also the most overwhelming year you've experienced. A lot is changing! Go easy on yourself! If you can afford to, wait a term to get a part time job, and sign up for around 12 credits! Use OSU resources to help with your transition! Consider signing up to live in the Earth2OSU LLC. That's how I met some of my favorite people. Take classes that sound interesting and exciting to check off your bacc cores, you may find your new favorite subject. Talk to the people around you in your dorm and in your classes. The first few weeks of freshman year are like the first few weeks of kindergarten. Everyone is nervous and wants to make friends. Know that a lot is changing, but you can do it! :)
