Do you have a grading question or want to appeal a grade?
The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences takes students’ concerns and questions about grades seriously.
What can do if you have a concern about a grade?
Step 1
Talk with your instructor. Instructors have information, resources, and suggestions that may help resolve your concern.
Step 2
Did the instructor provide an explanation or resolution of your grade concern? If not, schedule an appointment with a program director. Most grade issues can be resolved at this level especially.
Contact the director of the program offering the course:
- Frank Tepley, Geology, for GEO courses
- Byron Crump, Oceanography, for OC undergraduate courses
- Julia Jones, Geography & Geospatial Science, for GEOG courses

- Lorenzo Ciannelli, OEAS and OC graduate courses
- Karen McLeod, MRM courses
Step 3
The program director might refer you to a member of the CEOAS dean team if the grade issue cannot be addressed or resolved by working through steps 1-2. You can also choose to speak with an Associate Dean if you feel the grade issue has not been resolved satisfactory at steps 1-2.
- The Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs is Michael Harte. Please contact Kira Hughes to schedule an appointment with Dr. Harte.
- The Associate Dean of Graduate Programs is Adam Kent. Please contact Kira Hughes to schedule an appointment with Dr. Kent.
