CICOES

Oregon State University, the University of Washington and University of Alaska, Fairbanks will receive up to $300 million to lead a new institute focused on climate, ocean and coastal challenges that demand collaboration and sharing of scientific resources.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration chose the three universities to form the Cooperative Institute for Climate, Ocean and Ecosystem Studies, or CICOES.

This Cooperative Institute was formed in 2020 through a consortium among the University of Washington, the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and Oregon State University. Researchers from all three universities contributed to the proposal, whose goal was to showcase our capacity within nine research themes specified by NOAA.

CICOES Internal Research Grant Program

Overall Eligibility:

Postdoctoral Scholar Principal Investigators must meet the UW College of the Environment’s Postdoc eligibility criteria:

  1. applicants must be in their third year of postdoctoral experience (the first two years of experience can be at another institution) at the start of the project; and
  2. the proposed project is not used to extend the Postdoctoral Scholar’s appointment.

For Partnered Project Proposals:

Postdoctoral Scholar Principal Investigators must have departmental/unit appointments that are affiliated with CICOES-affiliated departments/units.

For CICOES-UW Project Proposals:

Postdoctoral Scholar Principal Investigators must be employed by CICOES (this includes CICOES Task I and grant funded Postdocs).
