Earth scientist Leif Karlstrom will deliver the Taubeneck lecture in honor of alumnus and former professor William "Bill" Taubeneck. A tireless advocate for Oregon State's geology program, Taubeneck was passionate about recruiting excellent graduate students and has donated funds to support geology graduate student stipends.

In his lecture, Dr. Karlstrom will discuss Taubeneck's legacy and contribution to understanding Columbia River flood basalts, a large igneous province that lies across parts of the Western United States. Karlstrom will explore the tectonic history of the Pacific Northwest and the region's igneous petrology.
