Eileen Pollack will also give a craft talk on research and fiction at 4:00 PM. She is the author most recently of The Only Woman in the Room:Why Science is Still A Boys’ Club and the novel A Perfect Life. Other books include the novels Breaking and Entering (a New York Times Editor’s Choice selection) and Paradise, New York, as well as two collections of short fiction, an award-winning book of nonfiction, and two creative-nonfiction textbooks. Her work has appeared in Best American Essays and Best American Short Stories. She is a professor on the faculty of the Helen Zell MFA Program in Creative Writing at the University of Michigan. She divides her time between Manhattan and Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Donuts at Dawes

CEOAS Graduate Students, come join us for a fun and stress-relieving fall-themed event at Dawes House, hosted by GSC. The event will run from 10-11:30 am on Friday October 28th. There will be Nutcakes donuts, a crackling fireplace, hot apple cider, and pumpkin decorating. You won't want to miss it!

YOU ARE INVITED! New Faculty Orientation, Oct. 27th, 2-5pm

Research Faculty-

The RO’s New Faculty Orientation is set for Thursday, October 27th, 2 – 5 pm in the Memorial Union Horizon Room. The event will acquaint you with the University Research Office and how we can help you find funding, submit proposals, manage your awards, and move your research outcomes into commercial space.

The agenda for the afternoon is provided below. We will begin the session with a panel discussion from former Program Officers of leading federal agencies. Later, units within the research office, Research Integrity, Sponsored Projects, Commercialization, and Research Development, will provide lightening rounds of their services in a “speed dating” format. Additional RO staff will be available to answer questions about other RO activities, such as dive safety, travel funds, and incentives programs.

Applications for PCOSW

Applications for PCOSW scholarships and event co-sponsorships are now being accepted. The President’s Commission on the Status of Women provides funding to women faculty, students, and staff who are pursuing professional development or conducting research, outreach, or creative projects related to women’s issues. Scholarships average $500. Applications are due Friday, Oct. 28, with notification in Week 7.  Please visit http://leadership.oregonstate.edu/pcosw/awards-scholarships for detailed guidelines and application link.
