The R/V Thomas G Thompson about to get underway from Newport, OR (NOAA docks) on Leg 3 of the VISIONS_14 expedition with Dr. Michael Vardaro as co-Chief scientist. The Benthic Experiment Platform (BEP) is shown ready to launch in the stern A-Frame. The expedition arrived onsite Wednesday, August 13, 2014 and launched the ROV ROPOS to begin operations to deploy cabled assets of the OOI Endurance Array and Regional Scale Network. The BEP was deployed, along with its hydrophone and digital still camera, Thursday morning, August 14.

Also pictured are Kent Fletcher, the OSU Mechanical Engineer who designed the BEP, and FRA Rhea Sanders making final preparations for the vehicle. It is expected that he launch might begin within approximately 24 hours of getting onsite, perhaps beginning after 08:00 PST on Thursday.

The OSU contingent onboard includes Mike Vardaro, Bob Collier, Kent Fletcher, Rhea Sanders, and Kristina McCann.
