Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 10AM in Burt 193. Shawn Hutchinson, the third of four candidates for the Geospatial Intelligence & Planning position. He will be giving a seminar entitled: "Beyond Spatial Literacy:  Enhancing the Land Grant Mission with Geospatial Intelligence and Planning".

Thursday, Sept. 6th, 10:30-11:30am, Burt 193: Patricia Reglero, Spanish Institute of Oceanography, Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain: "Larval ecology and spawning distribution of bluefin tuna"

Dr. Patrica Reglero and her husband Diego Alvarez, are visiting CEOAS until September 13th. They are working with Lorenzo Ciannelli and other colleagues from the University of Miami on comparing larval ecology of Atlantic bluefin tuna in the Mediterranean and in the Gulf of Mexico. Student Advisory Committee (SAC) Travel Reimbursement Update

The Student Advisory Committee (SAC) is pleased to announce that this term (Summer 2012) a total of $1,326 in student travel reimbursements was distributed to four CEOAS graduate students to support travel to national and international conferences. SAC travel reimbursements are made possible by the generous support of the CEOAS community participating in gear and merchandise sales and from alumni donations to the OSU Foundation CEOAS Student Assistance Fund. Congratulations to all recipients! A call for fall travel reimbursements will go out in November.

Job Opportunity- TT Professor (Universite Laval)

Universite Laval seeks Tenure-Track Professor, Numerical Modeling of Arctic Marine Ecosystems. Quebec City, Quebec, Canada
The Biology Department at Universite Laval seeks candidates for a tenure-track position in Numerical Modeling of Arctic Marine Ecosystems. The position will be based in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The appointee is expected to adapt or develop numerical models that couple biotic and physical processes, with the aim of understanding the influence of atmospheric and oceanic processes on the biological productivity of Arctic Seas. The successful candidate will teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses in his/her area of expertise (e.g. introduction to numerical modeling, biostatistics, structure and
functioning of ecosystems), and is expected to supervise graduate students and develop an independent grant-funded research program.

Applicants must have a PhD in oceanography or a related field, and expertise in the modeling of oceanic circulation or the modeling of biological or biogeochemical processes. The appointee will be expected to teach in French within one year of appointment.

Priority will be granted to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Evergreen Wings & Waves Presenters needed!

Evergreen Wings & Waves, an educational water park and H20 Museum, is looking for multiple presenters for a variety of outreach events. Any and all water-based topics are welcomed.  Outreach and education events include but are not limited to:

September 28th 2012: Marine Technology Day (K-12 audience). Are you looking for a way to show off your equipment in an education and outreach capacity? Do you work with gliders, wave energy development, or ROVs? Come share your experiences, talk about your research, or demonstrate your equipment in the wave pool! February 2013: Water World Day STEM (Science, Technology, Math, and Engineering) Teacher Workshop. Teachers learn activities, resources, or just general knowledge about water-related science, technology, math, or engineering. Any presentations, demos, activities, or resources involving water in any capacity are welcomed. This is a great way to network within school districts as well as with other organizations. Coming soon: Wings & Waves Science Saturdays lecture series.   Present your research, discussion, or debate to a public audience inside the water park! A great outreach opportunity for graduate students to practice on a public audience.
