Cayuse Training Session - 5/4

Fri., 4 May at 10:30 A.M. in Burt 193 there will be another Cayuse Training Session with Pat Hawk, Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs. This session for CEOAS faculty will cover information and instructions on using this web-based proposal submission system.

Congratulations Julia Rosen

Congratulations go to Julia Rosen, Ph.D. geology graduate student working with Ed Brook, for being selected to receive an Outstanding Student Paper Award on behalf of the Paleoceanography & Paleoclimatology Focus Group of the American Geophysical Union for her oral presentation at the 2011 AGU Fall Meeting in San Francisco: "New insights on the phasing of atmospheric methane and temperature change during the Last Glacial Termination from the North Greenland Eemian (NEEM) Ice Core."


Changes in OUS Mileage Reimbursement Rate

News from Business Affairs: Effective 1 May 2012, Oregon University Systems has announced a change to the personal mileage reimbursement rate. The OUS mileage reimbursement rate will increase from 51 cents per mile to 55.5 cents per mile. The mileage rate in the Travel Reimbursement Entry System (TRES) and the Business Affairs website has been changed to reflect this.

Our standard trips to the airport(s) will now be:
OSU to PDX: $105.45 (95 miles; Round trip 190 miles x $0.55.5)
OSU to EUG: $38.84 (35 Mile; Round trip 70 miles x $0.55.5)

Congratulations to graduate student Rodrigo Duran and his wife Samia Bouamir on the birth of their son, Dawud Duran, born April 29, 2012.


Rentals Needed

A graduate student intern arriving next week to work with the Cartography and Geovisualization Group is looking for an immediate housing opportunity. If anyone knows of any available rentals, sub-lets, or needs a new roommate from 7 May to the last week of June, please contact Jacob at JWasilkowski@clarku.edu.

Another visitor to the group, a 31 year old geomatics engineer from Switzerland, is looking for a room from May 18 to June 16. Please contact him at schmid.andreas@gmx.ch if you have an offer or suggestion.


FSF “Try ”-Athlon

Faculty Staff Fitness is sponsoring the 2nd Annual FSF "Try"-Athlon for all OSU faculty, staff and students. Lorenzo Ciannelli has offered to coordinate a team for CEOAS for those interested. A sign-up sheet is located in the foyer of CEOAS Admin. A team consists of 18 individuals, with 6 people participating in each event: walk, run, and swim. Participants will donate $10 each to take part in the event (proceeds from this fundraiser will help sustain the FSF program). The event will take place on Friday, 25 May from Noon - 1 P.M. at the Langton Pool and Reser Stadium. Details are posted on bulletin boards and available next to the sign-up sheet (deadline for registering is Fri., 5/18/12).


2012 Commencement Volunteers Needed

Over a 100 volunteers are needed to serve as information specialists and assist guests during this year's Commencement ceremony. Commencement volunteers play an important service and public relations role. As a volunteer, you can help by:

  • Providing directions and programs
  • Assisting family and friends of our graduates finding seats
  • Assisting guests with special needs, answering questions
  • Being an OSU ambassador
  • Assist with the "Green-Team"; recycling, & other duties, etc.

Preference will be given to OSU, OUS, OSU Foundation, OSU Alumni Association, & INTO Employees in making assignments for this year's Commencement ceremony. Attendance at one mandatory training session will be required prior to the commencement ceremony (to be held on Thur., 6/14; Fri, 6/15, or Sat. 6/16).

All volunteers receive confirmation and detailed information about their tasks before the commencement ceremony. Most volunteers will be needed from 10:30 A.M. - 3:30 P.M.
