Mapping Movements After a Storm

To better understand the human toll of large storms, Oregon State University geography researcher David Wrathall and collaborators used data provided by mobile networks to track people's movements in response to weather. In this particular study, Wrathall looked at people's movements following a tropical storm in Bangladesh to understand patterns of displacement and areas vulnerable to crisis. His technique is making the case for early warning systems that will help save lives.
