Beneath the Ice

Scientists at Oregon State have long been studying materials archived in ice cores to reconstruct past climate scenarios. Greenhouse gases trapped inside ice provide a record of our ancient atmosphere, while also giving clues to our future. Ed Brook, an internationally recognized Oregon State paleoclimatologist, has been collecting ice core samples at Taylor Glacier on Antarctica to understand variation in greenhouse gases and to document abrupt climate change. Learn more about his work and what it takes to conduct research on the planet's coldest continent.
